Assoc. Prof. Dr. Murat Atar

Dr. Murat Atar was born in 1985 in Izmir, Turkey. He completed his primary, secondary, and high school education in Antalya. He earned his medical degree (M.D.) from Istanbul University, Cerrahpaşa Faculty of Medicine, in 2009. He then completed his residency in Neurosurgery at Izmir Atatürk Training and Research Hospital in 2016, obtaining the title of Specialist in Neurosurgery.

Following his residency, Dr. Atar was accepted for post-residency fellowship training at one of the world’s leading neurosurgical centers, the Department of Neurosurgery at the University of Zurich, under the mentorship of Prof. Dr. Luca Regli. During this time, he received advanced training in the surgical treatment of complex brain tumors and cerebrovascular diseases, using the most cutting-edge microsurgical techniques and technologies available in contemporary neurosurgery.

In 2017, upon returning to Turkey, he completed a one-month observership at Yeditepe University’s Department of Neurosurgery, where he had the opportunity to closely follow the surgeries of world-renowned neurosurgeons Prof. Dr. Gazi Yaşargil and Prof. Dr. Uğur Türe. During this time, he observed intricate neurosurgical procedures involving highly eloquent brain regions such as the brainstem and thalamus, which are operated on in only a limited number of highly specialized centers globally.
